National Beef Month

May is National Beef Month. Seasons on the ranch aren’t marked by dates on a calendar but seasons like “calving”, “breeding”, “haying”, and “feeding”. Or simply “snake season” or not. So we tend to lose track but bringing awareness to such a vital industry in our country is important to us. We’d like to take this month to focus on sharing some of the nitty-gritty parts of why we’ve chosen this lifestyle and why it’s our privilege to bring meals to your table.

You might be shocked to know that ranches run on data and ours is no exception. We’ll get into more of that later, but as an overview:

• 58.6lbs/person: beef consumption per capita in the US

• 11.06USD/lb: the average consumer price of a sirloin steak

• 96% of beef operations are family owned and operated

• 9% of cattle operations are run by women

• 31.1 million: the number of cattle in Texas (#1!)

• 2 years: the average amount of time it takes to bring a beef to finish

There’s so much more to the industry than pretty cattle eating grass (although that’s one of our favorite parts!). Generations of hard work have gone into every cut of beef we, and every other rancher, deliver to our customers. We’re hoping this month will give a little insight into that.
